paper space
plat
A term sometimes used to refer to the inter-
face for a drawing that contains layouts. See
also layout .
A drawing prepared using the textual legal
description of a parcel or piece of land.
plot style
path
A group of settings assigned to a layer, a
color, or an object. These settings determine
how that layer, color, or object is printed.
The hierarchy of drive, folder, and subfold-
ers where a file is stored, along with the
file's name, such as C:\Projects\12345\
A-FPLAYO.dwg.
plot style table
A set of plot styles that controls the way in
which a layout or drawing is printed. Saved
with a .ctb extension for tables mapped to
each of the index colors in AutoCAD, and
with a .stb extension for named plot styles.
perspective view
A pictorial view of a three-dimensional object
in which parallel lines that aren't parallel to
the plane of the screen appear to converge as
they move farther from the viewer, similar
to the way objects appear in the real world
(such as railroad tracks in the distance). See
also isometric view .
point filters
A set of tools that allow you to specify a point
in the drawing by using some of the x-, y-,
and z-coordinates from another point or
points to generate the coordinates for the
point you're specifying.
pickbox
A form of the cursor as a small square that
occurs when AutoCAD is in Selection mode .
polar coordinates
Pick button
Values for locating a point in space that
describe the location relative to the last point
picked as defined by an angle and a distance.
The button on the mouse (usually the left
one) that is used to pick points, buttons, or
menu items, and select objects in the draw-
ing area.
Polar tracking
A tool for temporarily aligning the cursor
movement to preset angles while drawing.
PLAN
The command used to display the plan view
per the current UCS .
polyline
A special type of line that (a) treats multiple
segments as one object, (b) can include
arcs, (c) can be smoothed into a curved line,
and (d) can have width in two-dimensional
applications.
plan view
A view of a drawing in which the viewer is
looking straight at the XY plane in a direc-
tion parallel to the z-axis.
