In-Depth Information
a. Verify that Rectangular Array is selected in the upper-left por-
tion of the dialog box.
b. Change the number of Rows to 1 and the number of Columns to 5 .
The number of rows is set to 1 because you only have a single
staircase, and you do not want to create any additional offsets
along the y-axis. Although you're only creating four new lines
along the x-axis, you have to account for the existing perimeter
line, making the total number of columns five.
c. Specify a Column Offset of 10 from the Offset Distance And
Direction portion of the Array dialog box.
Note the preview shown along the right side of the Array dia-
log box. This preview only shows a schematic representation of
the array you're about to perform, but it does update to reflect the
values entered into the dialog box itself and, therefore, provides
invaluable feedback without having to leave the dialog box.
10. Click the Preview button to verify the values you entered into the Array
dialog box.
At this point, AutoCAD has not yet completed the array by creating
your steps. Instead what you're looking at is simply a preview of the
array itself.
11. Assuming the preview looks like Figure 5.27, press to accept the
array. The ARRAY command will end, and your stairs will be drawn.
If the preview does not match Figure 5.27, press the Esc key to return
to the Array dialog box. From there you can review the values specified
in step 9.
Now you will use the TRIM command to trim away the stair lines
that extend into and beyond the railings and the lines that pass
through the 4 (102 mm) posts.
12. Start the TRIM command. Select both of the inside lines of the stair-
way handrails and the 4 (102 mm) post polylines as the cutting edge
objects.
TIP Make sure that you do not select the offset perimeter polylines
as cutting edges. When polylines are selected as cutting edges and then as
the trimmed objects, they are trimmed back to the endpoint nearest to the
picked location.
13. Trim the four stair lines on both sides of the railing.
