In-Depth Information
AtMYB83; A. thaliana
Expressed in fibres and vessels. DR results
in a reduction in SW thickening in fibres
and vessels. OE activates the biosynthetic
genes of cellulose, xylan, and lignin and
concomitantly induces ectopic SW
deposition.
Functions redundantly with
AtMYB46. Direct target of SND and
its close homologs, including NST1,
NST2, VND6 and VND7. OE
significantly induced the expression
of AtMYB42, AtMYB43,
AtMYB52, AtMYB54, AtMYB63,
AtMYB85 and AtKNAT7.

PtrMYB3 & PtrMYB20;
P. trichocarpa
Preferentially in vessels and fibres in
developing wood but also in phloem
fibres and ray parenchyma cells. OE in
Arabidopsis shows ectopic deposition of
lignin, cellulose and xylan in the walls of
epidermal cells.
Functional orthologs of AtMYB46 and
AtMYB83. Directly activated by
PtrWND2. OE induces SW
biosynthetic genes for cellulose
(CesA4, CesA7 and CesA8), xylan
(fragile fibre8 (FRA8), IRX8 and
IRX9), and lignin (CCoAOMT and
4CL).
McCarthy et al.
(2010)
PtxtMYB021;
P. tremula tremuloides
Expressed mainly in xylem tissues. Putative
ortholog of AtMYB46.
Transactivates gene promoters of
xylan-active carbohydrate-active
enzymes (CAZymes).
Winzell et al. (2010)
AtMYB58 & AtMYB63;
A. thaliana
Specifically expressed in fibres and vessels
undergoing SW thickening. OE of both
genes resulted in specific activation of
lignin biosynthetic genes and
concomitant ectopic deposition of lignin.
DR led to a reduction in SW thickening
and lignin content.
Activators of lignin biosynthesis
regulated by the SND1 close
homologs NST1, NST2, VND6 and
VND7 and their downstream target
MYB46. They induce the expression
of genes involved in the
phenylpropanoid metabolism.
Zhou et al. (2009)
AtMYB85; A. thaliana
Highly expressed in IF and xylem cells
undergoing SW thickening. OE produces
ectopic deposition of lignin in epidermal
and cortical cells in stems. DR
Regulates SW biosynthesis. Induces
SW biosynthetic genes. Regulated by
SND1 but is not a direct target of
AtMYB46.
