S_AdoMet_synt_C family produces S-adenosyl methionine, a methyl donor
involved in transmethylation. Biosynthesis of lignin involves several trans-
methylation reactions, where S-adenosyl methionine is consumed. Pres-
ence of S_AdoMet_synt_C family suggests coupling of production of
S-adenosyl methionine and production of lignin.
PDT (prephenate dehydratase) family synthesizes phenylalanine precursors
via decarboxylative dehydration of arogenate or prephenate ( Cho et al.
2007 ). The presence of PDT family suggests tight coupling of phenylala-
nine and lignin biosynthesis.
Glyco_hydro_9 (glycosyl hydrolase 9) family shows endo-1,4-beta-glucanase
activity in vitro ( Rudsander et al., 2008 ) and was shown to be associated
with cellulose biosynthesis in Arabidopsis ( Nicol et al., 1998 ).
Networks of gene expression relative to lignin biosynthesis in grasses were
poorly studied until recent years and this situation could be attributed to
incomplete microarrays or absence of efficient tools to analyse them. Recently
