Partition a Hard Drive
You can divide a hard drive into two (or more) separate areas called
partitions
, which effect-
ively turns the device into two logically distinct hard drives. The most common reason to par-
tition a hard drive is to use the second partition to install another operating system. In
Chapter
22
you learn how to install Windows on a second Mac Pro partition. However, you
can also use a second partition to install another version of OS X. This is often a good idea
because if your main version of OS X fails, you may be able to boot from the second version
of OS X to troubleshoot.
