GarageBand converts the track to a ringtone and then adds it to the Tones category
in iTunes.

Can I make my ringtone as long as I want?
No, like iTunes, GarageBand puts a restriction on the length of a ringtone. However, with
GarageBand a ringtone can be a maximum of 40 seconds long, so you must select a por-
tion of the track that is no longer than 40 seconds.
Can I use any song to create a GarageBand ringtone?
No. Although you can use any song purchased from iTunes as the basis for your ringtone,
other songs might be protected by digital rights management (DRM), which is a system
that restricts how a song can be used. If a song is protected by DRM, you cannot import it
into GarageBand, so you cannot use it to create a ringtone.
