The Supermarket
This section will help you you to go grocery shopping in Spanish. We all know what it is
like to be in a new supermarket and have no idea where anything is. Especially in a new
country. You of course will notice a few things that are different from our supermarkets.
First of all, you usually have to put your bag in a locker. You are not allowed to carry bags
into the supermarket to prevent shoplifting incidences. Another thing to be prepared for is
that you must weigh your produce at the stand instead of the cashier doing it for you when
you pay. Either you or an employee will weigh and it will print a little sticker to put on your
produce. I also added the phrase ¿Tienes cambio? ( Do you have change) to help you since
the cashiers are almost always short on change. I have found this to be true in almost any
foreign country I have visited. So make sure to have change with you on those grocery shop-
ping trips. These phrases will help you to survive the Spanish supermarket.
