Cultural Visits and Activities
With so many world famous artists having called Spain home, it is no surprise that there are
numerous world-renowned museums and art galleries to visit in the country. Latin Amer-
ica has its fair share of fascinating art galleries and history museums as well in part due to
the captivating history of its countries. Most major museums in Spain are open from 9am
to 7pm, Tuesday through Sunday. Some museums have one day a week in which entry is
free, usually on Sundays. In Madrid and Barcelona, using their Tarjeta de Descuento (Dis-
count Card) you can obtain free entry to museums, monuments, free travel on public trans-
portation, discounts in shops, restaurants and theatres, and in Barcelona discount entry to
museums, shows, and attractions. Because of the largely catholic population, Spain and Lat-
in American countries are full of beautiful cathedrals. Occasionally entry is free, but there
is often a fee for non-worshippers to pay. Remember to keep your clothing conservative to
enter, making sure to cover your shoulders and legs. Here are some phrases to help you get
a little culture while travelling in your Spanish-speaking country.
