Tap a code (try AC1, there are hundreds) and someone
on the other side starts answering or asking questions on
your screen. You can type replies as you like (there are even
English language ones) because nobody knows who or what
you are. Totally anonymous. Perfect for fantasising, and you
just pay via your telephone bill.
The next step up, in terms of active participation, is the
erotic telephone numbers. For these you'll need a bit more
French. For face-to-face, there are certain bars, discotheques
and dance halls. Some of these specialise: gay or lesbian
sex, couples exchanges, S&M. These are usually 'pick-up'
places. If your French is poor, be sure to bone up on your
non-verbal skills.
More intimate still are the clubs (
clubs de rencontres
) and
saunas which open from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am, where your
participation will be expected. There are also women 'at home'

Where you shouldn't walk, especially at night, is in the
stunning old Bois de Boulogne, the immense woods on the
western edge of Paris. This is where the weirdest action is.
Fortunately for the families who would also like to enjoy this
park, most of the sexual action is limited to specii c areas for
specii c purposes at specii c times of day. There is actually
a map which indicates what is going on where. But it isn't
posted in public places.
Much of the 'pick-up' process and ultimately the activities
themselves are done in cars. Avoid walking off into the
woods around the Lac Inférieur in the early evening, even
in summer when it is light until 10:00 pm. The woods are
literally littered with action.
There are many other locations for good old, straight-
forward, pay-as-you-go prostitution in Paris, where there are
said to be 20,000 full-time prostitutes and another 60,000
working part-time. (I don't know how they conduct the
census.) Basic price is 25 euros a throw (plus the hotel, if
