In-Depth Information
How It Works
Enterprise Manager is fairly easy to use to back up your database. The default configuration is sufficient to get you
started. This recipe just introduces you to the basics of how to use Enterprise Manager for backups. Many other features
and options are available. We don't describe all of them in this recipe or chapter. We do encourage you to look at Oracle's
documentation at http://otn.oracle.com for full details on using Enterprise Manager.
Restoring and Recovering
Problem
You want to restore and recover all data files in your database. You have current control files and all redo required to
perform complete recovery.
Solution
Assuming that your current control files and online redo log files are intact, the steps for completely recovering your
whole database are as follows:
1.
Shut down your database.
2.
Start up the database in mount mode.
3.
Issue the restore and recovery commands.
4.
Open your database for general access.
Enterprise Manager will automatically perform all of the prior steps for you. You will be presented with a series of
screens from which you will provide instructions to Enterprise Manager regarding what type of restore and recovery
you need it to perform.
Step 1: Log In to Enterprise Manager and Navigate to Recovery Screen
Log in to Enterprise Manager and click on the Availability tab, then Backup and Recovery, and then Perform Recovery.
You should see a screen similar to Figure 19-7 . This page provides you with options regarding a whole database
recovery, tablespace level, data file level, and so on.
