Introduction to Part III
By now, we know how to build moderately complex interactive graphics applica-
tions in 2D space. Part III of this text shows that the concept of a camera is the
component required to extend our learning into the third dimension. All concepts
learned in 2D space are generalized to 3D.
Simple application in 3D. Chapter 13 uses a simple 3D scene to introduce
the important elements in 3D interactive computer graphics application.
3D viewing. Chapter 14 discusses different types of viewing volumes and
projections. The coordinate system concepts learned in 2D are extended to
accommodate the camera in 3D space.
Working with the computer graphics camera. Chapter 15 extends our
graphics library to support interaction with the camera in 3D space and
working with multiple cameras.
Extending all concepts to 3D. Chapter 16 extends the concepts learned
into the third dimension. As we will see, with the exception of rotation, all
concepts generalize into 3D in a straightforward manner.
