Introduction to Part III
By now, we know how to build moderately complex interactive graphics applica-
tions in 2D space. Part III of this text shows that the concept of a camera is the
component required to extend our learning into the third dimension. All concepts
learned in 2D space are generalized to 3D.
•
Simple application in 3D.
Chapter 13 uses a simple 3D scene to introduce
the important elements in 3D interactive computer graphics application.
•
3D viewing.
Chapter 14 discusses different types of viewing volumes and
projections. The coordinate system concepts learned in 2D are extended to
accommodate the camera in 3D space.
•
Working with the computer graphics camera.
Chapter 15 extends our
graphics library to support interaction with the camera in 3D space and
working with multiple cameras.
•
Extending all concepts to 3D.
Chapter 16 extends the concepts learned
into the third dimension. As we will see, with the exception of rotation, all
concepts generalize into 3D in a straightforward manner.
