coformulated with cholesterol or diauroyl-phosphatidyle ethanolamine (DLPE), dem-
onstrated transfection activity similar to DOTIM ( Fig. 4.18 ).
4.4 Lipid Polymer Hybrid Systems or Lipopolymers
Combinations of lipids and polymers, known as lipopolymers, have emerged as a
separate class of nonviral vectors. The ternary complex comprised of DNA, lipid, and
cationic polymer is known as a lipopolyplex. Lipopolyplex has a unique structure
composed of a core of polycation-condensed DNA coated with lipid bilayers.
