Reproducing the Logo
As mentioned in the previous section, Bitmap Tracer will
generate more data than you'll need to reproduce most
logos. The following steps take you through some object
simplification, sifting, and refining. Use these steps in work of
your own to quickly get to only the shapes you need to restore
and improve on work you've copied:
1.
Delete the original Bitmap copy (you no longer need
it). The Tracer copy should already be grouped as one
object—if it isn't, press CTRL - A to select all and then
CTRL - G to group the selected objects.
With the Selector Tool, drag a corner control handle
2.
to scale the objects proportionately until the width
is reported at about 280 pixels on the Infobar.
Alternatively, type 280pix in the Width field and then
press ENTER .
Press
3.
CTRL - SHIFT - O to bring up Options. On the General
page, set the Nudge Size to 300 pixels. Click Apply and
then click OK.
Choose the Ellipse Tool. On the Infobar, click the
4.
Radius Creation button, and then drag a perfect circle
that is about the same size as the globe. There's no
reason to keep the scores of shapes that were traced to
represent the globe's shape when a simple circle does
the job.
With the Selector Tool, select the circle, press
5.
CTRL - B to
put it to the back of all other objects on the page, and
then press the LEFT ARROW on the keyboard to nudge the
circle to the left of the grouped object. Use the Color
Picker to fill the circle with an ocean-blue color; you'll
come back to it later to add more elegant shading.
Select the grouped objects and press
6.
CTRL - U (Arrange |
Ungroup).
Select one of the continents and nudge it with the
7.
LEFT ARROW key once. Do this with all the objects you
want included in the finished illustration. Because the
distance between the new composition and the trace
is slightly greater than the width of the traced objects,
you can quickly nudge only what you need out of the
hundreds of shapes to a new location. Then do the
obvious thing with the unwanted traced shapes.
