In Uncharted 2 , most of the game's missions from this point on consti-
tute the bulk of this Test, Allies, Enemies phase, leading up to the moment
that Nate, Chloe, and Elena are faced with the prospect of entering
Shambhala.
7. Approach to the Inmost Cave
At a certain point the Hero (and possibly her allies), either willingly or un-
willingly, approach the Inmost Cave —which is probably the worst place
she/they could possibly go. This is the site of the resolution of a major
conflict, perhaps even the main one—a rescue or other risky operation. It
is not always a cave, of course, but it is often an imposing, threatening
structure that it's clear would be difficult to enter and/or leave.
In Star Wars , this is quite literally a high-tech cave, as Luke and everyone
else on the Millennium Falcon are dragged into the Death Star's hangar
bay.
In Uncharted 2 , this sequence is represented by Lazarevic forcibly lead-
ing Nate and his allies into Shambhala to help Lazarevic acquire the sap of
the prehistoric Tree of Life and become almost invincible.
8. The Supreme Ordeal
Now in the “belly of the beast,” the Hero fights to resolve the main conflict,
under the most trying of circumstances. Stakes are high and death is on
the line: literal death, the death of the quest, or both. Despite overwhelm-
ing odds, the Hero does everything he can to directly resolve the conflict.
In Star Wars , this is the entire sequence inside the Death Star, from
sneaking of the Falcon to the rescue of Princess Leia from her prison
