In-Depth Information
Backstory: Peter Parker was a highly intelligent but socially awk-
ward orphan teenager growing up with his beloved Aunt May and
Uncle Ben in Queens, New York when he was bitten by a radioact-
ive spider during a lab experiment gone wrong. Peter found he
now possessed superhuman, spider-like powers such as massive
strength and agility, increased durability, wall-crawling, and a
“spider-sense” that alerted him to immediate danger to himself.
Employing his extraordinary scientific skills, he invented wrist-
mounted “web shooters” that allowed him to fire web-like projec-
tions at the press of a button on either hand. He also fashioned a
costume for himself and, calling himself “Spider-Man,” decided to
capitalize on his good fortune by entering the world of profes-
sional wrestling. He became an overnight sensation and novelty
TV star, and basked in the fame and fortune that were beginning
to come his way. However, when he blithely refused to help stop a
fleeing thief running through the halls of the TV studio, Peter was
later horrified to learn that the same criminal soon thereafter
robbed and killed his Uncle Ben. Suddenly, painfully realizing that
with great power must also come great responsibility, Peter com-
mitted from that time forward to use his powers—as Spider-
Man—to do everything he could to help protect innocents from
criminals such as the one who murdered his uncle.
