In-Depth Information
Sightsee in Midtown Manhattan, but don't spend your
whole time there.
Midtown Manhattan is breathtaking. Times Square is a technology phenomenon. The di-
gital billboards, blinking Broadway lights, unbelievable skyscrapers are an absolute must
see. Take photos and take plenty. Bask in the sea of tourists, the cramped street walk to the
famed square, and take it in. But, know that this is not where the locals reside. Midtown
Manhattan is where you'll find those working in finance and tourists. The local delis offer
sandwiches for a pricey $15, and if dining in you'll be lucky to spend less than $40 a per-
son. If that deli is mandatory on your list, by all means, grab a bite. However, know that
if you walk an Avenue or two either way east or west, you'll be cutting your spending at
least 30%. For lunches, my favorite is heading to 2 nd Avenue. 2 nd Avenue runs along the
East Side of Manhattan and is filled with reasonable restaurants, delis, breakfast nooks, and
coffee shops. You'll find anything you could ever crave, and you'll be paying almost half
the price of Midtown. If you're heading west, Hell's Kitchen offers amazing authentic res-
taurants significantly cheaper, and within reasonable walking distance.
