Figure 4.24
Better-proportioned
fingers and knuckles
12. Select the pinkie finger edges (not
faces), and scale them in to narrow
the pinkie.
13. Select the edges that make up the
knuckle of each finger (one by one),
and scale them out in the X -axis to
fatten the knuckles a bit. Your results
should be similar to Figure 4.24.
14. To add more detail to the hand,
you'll raise the knuckles. You need to
create new vertices for the knuckles
where each finger meets the hand.
For this, the Split Polygon tool is
perfect. Go back into Object mode
(F8), and select the hand. Choose
Edit Mesh Split Polygon Tool. Your
cursor changes to a sharp triangle.
Use it to select a point on the hand
where the index finger starts. Click the opposite edge on that face along the back of
the hand. A line is drawn between the two points (the first image in Figure 4.25).
15. If you press Enter, that line becomes a single new edge on that face. While you have
the Split Polygon tool active, select three more points along the back of the hand, as
shown (the second image in Figure 4.25).
Scale these edge pairs
out for bigger knuckles.

drawn between the
two points.
