So, for example, if your acreage is moderately sloping grass, you'll want to keep a
100-foot border mowed around all buildings, and dense shrubs at least 200 feet away from
buildings. Also ensure that there is no continuous stand of trees within 100 feet of build-
ings.
Remove all dead plant material from the defensible space. Also, consider removing
some trees and shrubs to decrease the amount of flammable vegetation on your property.
