• Keep hay and bedding separate from the stable and tack room, with a 100-foot buffer

• All appliances should be disconnected when not in use and be routinely inspected. This

Stall lights should be in cages or heavy glass covers. The improper use of heating
units—electric, kerosene, or propane—and infrared lights is among the most common
causes of barn fires today.
