In-Depth Information
Well-managed pastures help maintain property value and foster goodwill among
neighbors.
Continuous grazing is typically practiced on farms or ranches with very large pastures.
This minimizes the amount of fencing and waterers, but it can result in seasonal forage
shortages and areas that are permanently contaminated with feces and permanently over-
grazed. Moving the location of salt and water in such pastures will minimize spots of over-
grazing. Continuous grazing yields a low stocking rate: one horse requires two to three
times as many acres, or more, for continuous grazing as he would for rotational grazing.
Overgrazing stops root growth
