Understand the labeling
If fertilizer label reads 32-10-10, it means 32 percent nitrogen, 10 percent phosphorus,
and 10 percent potassium; the rest is filler. So if the fertilization recommendation is
120 pounds of nitrogen per acre, you would spread 375 pounds of the fertilizer per
acre (120 pounds รท 0.32 = 375 pounds).
Phosphorus is essential for good root development, and phosphates sweeten grass, so
horses will tend to eat less palatable grasses. Potassium increases a plant's resistance to
drought and disease.
