In-Depth Information
Heavy-duty, round steel-tubing panels and gates such as these are used for confine-
ment pens.
Finish
Horse panels are either galvanized or painted. Common panel colors are gray, brown,
green, and silver (galvanized). The finish must be able to withstand horse rubbing, banging,
and chewing as well as the effects of sun and moisture. One of the main factors that creates
a durable finish is the paint and the way it is applied. A good finish deflects chewing at-
tempts and discourages rust.
“Powder-coated” panels are electrostatically treated with a high-quality enamel or poly-
ester/urethane paint that can result in a durable, long-lasting panel finish that will stand up
to horse and weather abuse.
Galvanized panels are coated with zinc and are nearly impervious to chewing and rust.
The best panels are galvanized after they are welded together. Panels that are welded after
the pieces have been galvanized have painted welds that are more susceptible to rust.
