In-Depth Information
This well-designed V-mesh fence incorporates a top board to prevent fence sag when
a horse leans over it. At just 5 feet tall, this fence is a bit short for the Warmblood
shown.
Field Fence
The type of woven-mesh fence that has uniform rectangular spaces, from 6 to 12 inches,
all the way up the fence is called field fence or stock fence. Because the openings are large
enough that a horse could put a hoof through and get caught, it is not a good fence for
horses.
Hog Panels
Hog panels are made of very heavy (4-gauge) welded wire and are from 3 to 5 feet high
and 8 feet long. They have smaller, 2-by-8-inch openings at the bottom; 4-by-8-inch open-
ings in the middle; and 8-by-8-inch openings at the top. Because they are so sturdy, it is
tempting to use them for horses, but again, the large openings at the top could trap a hoof,
so they are unsafe.
