The grass is always greener on the other side, and this horse endures barbed wire on
his chest and legs to reach for better grazing.
As you choose fencing materials, be aware that for horses, the risk of injury due to fen-
cing is greater than for other livestock. Because a horse's main attribute is movement, leg
injuries, frequently associated with fence accidents, can put a horse temporarily or perman-
ently out of service. Besides being safe, good horse fencing is sturdy, low maintenance,
highly visible, attractive, and affordable.
No barbed wire!
Barbed wire is not a suitable horse fence because the sharp points, coupled with a
horse's natural tendency to fight when tangled and flee when frightened, lead to hor-
rible injuries. Barbed wire should not be used for horses, so it won't be discussed.
Never
use barbed wire for a horse fence.
