In-Depth Information
Fabric arenas take advantage of ambient light.
Ventilation can include doors, windows, ceiling vents, cupolas, and fans. Other extras to
consider would be a tacking area, restroom, and small lounge. A recent innovation for in-
door riding arenas is a steel frame with truss arches covered by a translucent fabric, which
results in an arena illuminated by natural lighting. Whether such an arena would be suit-
able for your acreage will depend on temperature, precipitation, and the seasons you would
most likely want to ride indoors.
Breeding Facilities
If you have more than two or three broodmares, you may wish to construct a separate barn
or outdoor facilities for foaling and housing mares and foals. Your broodmare barn could
have comfortable quarters for observers adjacent to the foaling stall. Or you could have a
closed-circuit TV in the foaling stall, which you could monitor from the tack room, lounge,
or house.
