In-Depth Information
you use Western saddles. Multiple saddle racks, two or three high, make efficient use of
space, but Western saddles are difficult to lift onto a rack 6 feet above the floor.
Wall-mounted saddle racks are great space savers. The slatted design allows the un-
derside of the saddle to air out between rides.
No matter what type of saddle rack is chosen, be sure it satisfies the following require-
ments. The rack should allow air circulation; the bars or slats should be well spaced so that
the sheepskin or panels and stirrup fenders and leathers can dry after hard use. The rack
should be designed to approximate the contours of the horse's back. Although some horse
owners may think their horse looks like a 55-gallon drum, using one for a saddle rack pre-
vents the saddle from drying and spreads it out in an unnatural shape. Not many horses'
backs are shaped like logs, either. A saddle rack that supports the front jockeys and rear
portion of the skirts without causing them to become misshapen is ideal.
