to heat the entire tack room and keeps the assortment of veterinary supplies from piling up
on the back porch of the house. A small, safe electric heater or large lightbulb with a ther-
mostat control set at about 40°F will prevent ointments, oils, aerosol products, and other
items from being destroyed by freezing. Setting the thermostat at slightly higher temperat-
ures will keep salves softer for more convenient application.
The corner swinging-blanket-rod system in my tack room holds many saddle pads,
coolers, sheets, and blankets.
Although windows can provide a desirable airflow, the sun's rays shining through glass
can be very destructive to leather. If you want windows, those in direct sunlight should be
outfitted with shades. Exterior windows, however, unless fortified with bars, decrease the
security of the tack room. Most tack rooms are satisfactory without windows.
