If you are considering a farm that was used for livestock other than horses, pay special
attention to the following.
• In buildings, headroom (height of ceilings) in doorways and inside may be too
low if they were built for cattle or other livestock.
• Aisles and handling areas are often too narrow. This is often a result of the type
of livestock previously raised or the style of building. Some buildings have
supporting walls or posts throughout, making it difficult to remodel to the open
spaces necessary for horse buildings.
• Flooring in dairy barns is often concrete. While this is OK for aisles in a horse
barn, it is not OK for stalls.
