Water
The availability and quality of water are of utmost importance to you, your family, and the
health of your horses (see
chapter 14

Water). If a property does not have a well, determine
if there are legal restrictions that prevent drilling one. If the property will require irrigation,
see if water rights are included or available for purchase that will meet the needs of the
land. Find out the depth of the groundwater table. This will determine whether you will be
able to do any underground construction and may affect the installation of a septic system.
A beautiful horse property located a reasonable driving distance from work, school,
and shopping is convenient but usually expensive.
