the current. When the electron transfer rate is
high enough the currents are purely mass
transfer limited, and a mass-transport-limited
voltammetric peak is observed ( Figure 2.4b ).
When the final potential is reached ( Figure
2.4c ), the direction of the potential scan is
reversed (process c-d of Figure 2.4 ). Since the
Fermi-level moves to a higher energy by doing
this reverse scan, electron transfer from the
Fermi-level to the HOMO of the ferrocenium
ion (Fc + ) should occur (the current for Fc +
reduction is observed in this case.). When most
of the Fc + in the vicinity of the electrode surface
has been converted to Fc, the reduction current
is reduced (process d-a of Figure 2.4 ).
