Company in Japan. Mitsui Chemicals in Japan
also produces NF 3 by electrochemical
perfluorination of NH 3 [12]. NF 3 is used as an
etchant and cleaning gas for apparatus used in
the chemical vapour deposition (CVD)
technique.
8.2.5 Other Examples
8.2.5.1 3,6-Dichloropicolic Acid
The Daw Chemical Company have
commercialized the electrochemical reduction
of 3,4,5,6-tetrachloropicolic acid in aqueous
solution to 3,4-dichloropicolic acid, which is
useful as a precursor to agrochemicals ( Eq. 8.8 )
[13]. As explained in Chapter 4 ( Fig. 4.5 ), the
high regioselectivity is attributed to the
controlled orientation of the substrate at the
cathode surface owing to the dipole moment of
the molecule.

8.2.5.2 β-Lactam Derivative
The Otsuka Chemical Company have
commercialized the electrosynthesis of the
antibiotic substance β -lactam derivative
(GCLE), as shown in Eq. 8.9 . The electrolysis is
