Fuchigami's group employed [emim]OTf for
electrochemical polymerization [68,69]. They
found that the polymerization of pyrrole in
ionic liquid proceeds much faster than that in
conventional media like aqueous and
acetonitrile solutions containing 0.1 M
[emim]OTf as a supporting electrolyte.
Interestingly, as shown in Table 6.5 , the surface
of the polypyrrole film prepared in neat
[emim]OTf is so smooth that no grains are
observed, and both the electrochemical capacity
and the electroconductivity are markedly
increased when the polypyrrole and
polythiophene films are prepared in the ionic
liquid. This may be attributable to the
extremely high concentration of anions as
dopants, which results in a much higher doping
level. As described above, polymer films
prepared in the ionic liquid have a higher
