Out on its rural lonesome, with views across wooded hills and down to the sea, Es
Picot is a lovely
finca
with a pool and gardens almost quiet enough to hear an olive plop.
The simply decorated rooms, with rustic features like beams and stone walls, have ter-
races or balconies. Home-grown fruit and eggs land on the breakfast table. It's 5km
northwest of Cales de Mallorca off the PM401.

A fine romance of a
finca
, this 17th-century farmhouse is a step up
from Porto Cristo's anonymous package-tour hotels, yet it's just five minutes' drive from
the resort. Vaulted corridors, subtly stylish rooms with features like beams and four-
posters, a pool for summer lounging, fireplaces for winter snuggling, spa treatments -
this is intimate luxury all the way.

Right on the waterfront, Hostal Porto Colom has breezy rooms decked
out in bright yellows and blues (which might get to you after a while), with parquet
floors and big beds. They're decent but nothing flash. Its restaurant and cool cocktail bar
command sea views.
