12.30-3pm & 7-10pm) Follow a narrow lane to this blissfully secluded finca (farm), which
notches up the romance with its lantern-lit terrace and sweeping country views. Set
among olive, almond and carob trees, it makes the most of garden and market produce in
dishes likes turbot in champagne with clams, and suckling pig cooked to crackling per-
fection - all prepared with home-grown olive oil. The wine list features some excellent
Mallorcan choices.

Getting There & Away
Bus 411 links Capdepera to Palma (€10.60, 1½ hours, up to five daily), via Artà (€1.50,
10 minutes) and Manacor (€3.90, 35 minutes). Bus 441 runs along the east coast, stop-
ping at all the major resorts, including Porto Cristo (€3.20, 55 minutes, up to 10 daily)
and Cala d'Or (€9.10, one hour 25 minutes).

Cala Ratjada

Cala Ratjada is the Jekyll and Hyde of Mallorca's eastern resorts. Wander along the
promenade that skirts the contours of the coast and plump for one of the quieter bays and
it can be pretty, peaceful even. It's also a terrific base for water-borne activities. But
come high season the resort adopts a second persona as the Costa del Bavaria, with rol-
licking beer gardens attracting a tanked-up 18-30 crowd, doing a brisk trade in schnitzel
and other German grub. You'll need to tiptoe beyond the centre to find Mallorca again.
