In-Depth Information
ARTÀ CARD
If you're planning on doing a fair bit of sightseeing, buy the Artà Card (€3) at the
tourist office. The card gets you entry into the major sights, including the Museu
Regional d'Artà, the Transfiguració del Senyor and Ses Païsses, plus discounts
elsewhere.
Activities
The tourist office hands out an excellent brochure called Bike Tours that includes a dozen
route maps and descriptions through the area that you can complete on foot or by bike.
Particularly recommended is the demanding 7km route from Artà to the Ermita de Be-
tlem hermitage.
Festivals & Events
Festes de Sant Antoni Abat TOWN FESTIVAL
During this curious festival (16-17 January), everyone dresses in traditional costume and
heads to the Santuari de Sant Salvador for dancing, music and a downright odd display of
backward-facing equestrians swinging long sticks.
Eating
Artà has some brilliantly atmospheric restaurants and cafes, many with a boho vibe and
sidewalk seating. Carrer de la Ciutat, the prettiest street in town, is lined with shops, res-
taurants and cafe-dotted squares.

( 971 82 92 46; www.fornnou-arta.com ; Carrer del Centre 7; lunch menu €12, dinner menus
€28-38; noon-4pm & 7pm-midnight Thu-Tue) Forn Nou's bird's nest of a terrace perches
high above Artà's medieval maze and peers across the rooftops to the church and fort-
ress. The season-driven menu changes twice monthly, but you can expect clean, bright
Mediterranean flavours, along the lines of prawn-filled avocado with truffle mayonnaise
and hake with garlic and crispy beetroot. In the slick downstairs restaurant, note the win-
dow in the flagstone floor that reveals the wine cellar below.
