Església de Nostra Senyora Verge dels Dolors
CHURCH
(Plaça del General Weyler; 8.30am-12.45pm & 5.30-8pm)
The massive Església de
Nostra Senyora Verge dels Dolors lords it impressively over the Manacor skyline. It was
raised on the site of the town's former mosque and has a hybrid Gothic/neo-Gothic style,
which reflects the fact that construction began in the 14th century and wasn't completed
until the 19th century.
Torre del Palau
HISTORIC BUILDING
(Plaça del General Weyler)
A short distance north of the main church, in the courtyard of an
apartment block, is the dishevelled Torre del Palau, all that remains of a royal residence
that Jaume II began in the late 13th century.
Església de Sant Vicenç Ferrer
CHURCH, CLOISTER
(Carrer de Muntaner; 8am-2pm & 5-8pm Mon-Fri)
On the corner of Carrer de Mun-
taner is the baroque Església de Sant Vicenç Ferrer, which first opened for worship in
1617. It's attached to a fetching 18th-century cloister, now home to government offices.
Torre de Ses Puntes
GALLERY, HISTORIC BUILDING
(Plaça de Gabriel Fuster Historiador)
Once part of the city's defences, this 14th-cen-
tury tower is now used for the odd exhibition. It's around 500m west of the tourist office.
