Colònia de Sant Pere
Named after the patron saint of fishers (St Peter), this peaceful former farming village is
an antidote to the tourist resorts to the west. The huddle of houses has expanded beyond
the central square and church to accommodate a small populace that seems to be on per-
manent vacation.
In the centre of town on the shady Passeig del Mar, some splash about in the water on
the sandy, protected Platja de la Colònia de Sant Pere . Nearby is the small marina and
fishing port. About 2.5km west, you'll find Platja de Sa Canova , a fine sweep of sand
backed by dunes. From S'Estanyol the only way to Sa Canova is on foot.
Along the waterfront you'll find Sa Xarxa ( 971 58 92 51; www.sa-xarxa.com ; Passeig del
Mar; mains €12-20; noon-11pm Tue-Sun Mar-Oct) , with incredible sea and sunset views,
and tables set under the tamarind trees. Seafood is the big deal, especially the catch of the
day done simply in a salty crust. Everything, such as the carpaccio of angler fish with
lime yoghurt, is done with a delicate touch.
