( 971 53 36 35; Avinguda Pollentia 7; mains €12-23; 1-3pm & 7-10.30pm Thu-Tue) More con-
temporary than most, Clivia gathers around an inner courtyard, where a mosaic of pine
panels and bell-shaped lights create an abstract artwork. The food (especially the fish) is
prepared with panache. Prawn carpaccio with sweet red pepper is a delicious lead to the
house speciality: wild sea bass steamed in malvasia wine.

( 971 53 03 96; Carrer del Monti-Sion 4; mains €7.50-17, set menus €25-35; 6.30-11pm daily,
plus noon-3pm Mon, Thu, Fri & Sun) You'll be lucky to bag a spot on the pavement terrace at
La Font del Gall in summer. The chef keeps it simple, with spot-on Mallorcan dishes like
crisp, slow-roasted suckling pig and seafood paella. Our only gripe is that portions can be
small, though that means you have room for dessert!

(Carrer de Jesús 40; 7pm-2am Sun-Thu, to 4am Fri & Sat) Known also to locals as the 'Gal-
lito' (cockerel) and full of enticingly cosy nooks, this drinking hole spills out onto a
pavement terrace in summer. British owner and bartender Neil mixes great cocktails and
G&Ts. The vibe is chilled, the music upbeat.
MOORS & CHRISTIANS IN IMMORTAL COMBAT
August sees the staging in Pollença of one of the most colourful of Mallorca's fest-
ivals. This version of Moros i Cristians (Moors and Christians) celebrates a famous
victory by townsfolk over a Moorish raiding party led by the infamous Turkish pirate
Dragut (1500-65) in 1550. The 'battle' is the high point of the Festes de la Patrona
