In-Depth Information
richly inflected by the seasons and presented with a razor-sharp eye for detail - no coin-
cidence given chef Marcel Battenberg's Michelin-star background.
Randemar INTERNATIONAL €€€
( 971 63 45 78; www.randemar.com ; Passeig Es Travès 16; mains €13.50-23; 12.30pm-mid-
night mid-Mar-early Nov) You could almost feel like you're turning up to a Great
Gatsby-style party in this pseudo-waterfront mansion, but most rarely make it that far,
preferring to linger over cocktails on the candlelit terrace to the backbeat of mellow mu-
sic. The menu trots the globe from Thai curry to sushi, pizza to Peruvian ceviche.
Espléndido MALLORCAN €€€
€€€
( 971 63 18 50; www.esplendidohotel.com ; Passeig Es Travès 5; mains €26-29; 8am-midnight
daily) Cheerfully done out in nautical blues and whites, this slick, modern bistro resides
on Port de Sóller's waterfront promenade. The menu has a fishy angle, with simple
mains like grilled tuna and plump Sóller gambas taking centre stage. The three-course
lunch is a steal at €15.
Drinking
Like any Mallorcan harbourside town where yacht masts crowd the skyline, summer
evenings are long and happy - you could easily take up residence in a cafe-bar-restaurant
terrace by the port or along Passeig de Sa Platja in the afternoon and find yourself still
there in the wee small hours. There are plenty of lively bars, but few have anything to
distinguish them from the rest.
Information
Tourist office ( 971 63 30 42; Carrer del Canonge Oliver 10; 9am-3.15pm Mon-Fri Apr-Oct)
The tourist office is right in the heart of the town, near the bus terminus.
Getting There & Away
Most buses to Sóller terminate in Port de Sóller. If driving, you must choose between go-
ing to the centre (take the tunnel) or the Platja d'en Repic side (follow the signs). The
tranvías (trams) to Sóller run along the waterfront. Several car-rental offices line Passeig
Es Travès.
