8-11pm Mon-Sat Jun-mid-Sep, shorter hours rest of year) Locals wax lyrical about the asados
(roasts) at El Mesón La Villa, where a chef can usually be found shovelling lamb and
suckling pig into a wood-fired clay oven to slow-bake it to juicy perfection. The setting
matches the rustic, hearty food, with its beams and farming implements; all of which has
won it a faithful local following.
Es Brollador SPANISH €€€
( 971 61 05 39; Passeig del Rei 10; mains €11.50-21.50; 10am-10pm) With its tiled floors,
high ceilings and rear courtyard, Es Brollador makes a pleasant stop for anything from a
morning coffee to lunch or dinner. The pork sirloin with a sauce made with sobrassada is
memorable; it also serves lighter meals. The outdoor tables are perfect for people-watch-
ing.
Getting There & Away
The 200 Palma-Estellencs bus (€3.85, one hour 20 minutes, four to 11 times daily)
passes through Esporles and Banyalbufar.

Valldemossa
POP 2027 / ELEV 425M
Crowned by the spire of its Carthusian monastery that slowly lifts the gaze to the Tra-
muntana's wooded slopes, Valldemossa is a beauty. Set on a gentle rise, the village is
made for aimless ambling, with tree-lined, cobbled lanes, stout stone houses and im-
pressive villas. Yes, the place swarms with tourist-bus contingents and, yes, the bulk of
the restaurants and bars serve average fare at inflated prices. But slip away from the
crowds and you'll discover that its popularity is well founded.
