Nit de Foc LOCAL FIESTA
( 23 Jun) The night before the feast of St John (24 June) is celebrated with fiery feast-
ing. As night falls, the correfoc (fire-running) begins in Parc de la Mar. People dressed
up as demons, and armed with pyrotechnical gear that would probably be illegal in hell,
leap and dance in an infernal procession. Locals then head for the beaches, where wan-
dering musical groups and pyres add flaming cheer to a partying crowd until dawn.

set up in Parc de la Mar.
Nit de l'Art CULTURAL

over town throw open their doors to expose the latest trends in art.
TaPalma FOOD FESTIVAL
( www.tapalma.es ; late Oct-early Nov) Nibble your way around Palma at this event celeb-
rating the city's best tapas. Some 40 restaurants take part and there are dedicated tapas
trails to follow - see the website for a map.

This distinguished sweets shop with its 19th-century decor has an astonishing range of
sweets and specialises in pralines, almond sponges and embatumats (a cake and chocol-
ate confection); everything's tempting. There's been a sweets shop here since the 17th
