which public transport has to operate does not assist in providing state-of-the art services, rather
it leads to fragmented and patchy provision, spatially, temporally and in quality.
Figure 4.22 Park End Street, Oxford. Oxford is a beautiful city, but has been partly ruined by poor traffic
engineering that fails to consider the importance of urban design. This is the route into the city
from the station, and requires less priority given to the car and the associated traffic paraphernalia,
with the public realm redesigned for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
