Figure 3.6
Harry Beck's iconic diagrammatic map of the London Underground system. Beck developed the
design in 1931, whilst working as a draughtsman for the Underground. Following the formation
of London Transport in 1933, Frank Pick gave the design a trial printing; it proved popular and
easy to use for passengers, and has been used ever since.
