An important aspect to Web 2.0 is the ease and rapidity with which new
innovations can be created. In the past, complex software has been very time
consuming and expensive whereas with the mashup approach the process is
becoming somewhat automated. Hacking topics (of which there are many) are
enabling moderately expert programmers to make huge strides and to spread
advanced ICT techniques into many domains. As businesses exploit these amateur
activities, great economic rewards are likely to follow, hence the interest of
business journals such as The Economist .
