PRICES
Accommodation in this topic is divided by price category, identified by the sym-
bols $ (budget), $$ (midrange) or $$$ (top end).
Prices listed in this topic are the rack rate, which generally reflects the most
you are expected to pay. However, at most times of the year discounts are in
effect which can range from 10% to 60%; bargain for the best rate at recep-
tion. In some towns (such as Hangzhou), there may be a pricier weekend rate
(Friday and Saturday). International credit cards are generally only acceptable
at midrange hotels and above, so always have cash in case.
You usually have to check out by noon.
RESTRICTIONS & HASSLES
Note that quite a number of hotels in China will say they do not accept foreign-
ers. All hotels listed in this topic accept foreign guests.

Booking online can help you secure a room and obtain a good price, but re-
member you should be able to bargain down the price of your room at hotel re-
ception (except at youth hostels and the cheapest hotels) or over the phone.
