This
vast, excellent museum houses rotating exhibits as well as permanent collec-
tions of works by established Chinese and Western artists such as George
Chinnery (1774-1852), who spent most of his adult life in Macau painting.

The A-
Ma Temple is dedicated to A-Ma (better known as Tin Hau, the goddess of the
sea), from which the name Macau is derived.

The northern peninsula is quite a good area to just wander around in.
GUIA FORT

As the highest point on the Ma-
cau Peninsula, this fort affords panoramic views of the city and, on a clear day,
across to the islands and China. At the top you'll find a
lighthouse

1865 and the oldest on the China coast, and the lovely
Chapel of Our Lady

, built in 1622 and retaining almost 100% of its original
features, including one of the most valuable mural paintings in East Asia. Walk
