RUINS OF THE CHURCH OF ST PAUL

A gateway to nowhere in the middle of the city is all that remains of the
Church of St Paul ( Click here Ruinas de Igreja de São Paulo; Rua de São
Paulo; 8A,17) , considered by some to be the greatest monument to
Christianity in Asia. The church was designed by an Italian Jesuit and built
in 1602 by Japanese Christian exiles and Chinese craftsmen. In 1835 a fire
destroyed everything except the facade. Behind the ruins, there's a small
Museum of Sacred Art Offline map Google map ( Museu de Arte Sacra; Rua
de São Paulo; 9am-6pm) , and a crypt and ossuary.
