Bank of China Tower
Walk southwest through Chater Garden and cross over Garden Rd to the an-
gular, modern lines of the Bank of China Tower, completed in 1990 and offer-
ing amazing views from the 43rd floor.
Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware
Duck into Hong Kong Park for the free Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware
displaying valuable pots, cups and other elegant tea ware. Sample some of
China's finest teas in the serene cafe.
St John's Cathedral
From here take elevated walkways west over Cotton Tree Dr, through City-
bank Plaza, over Garden Rd and through Cheung Kong Garden to St John's
Cathedral, dating from 1849. It is a modest building to earn the title of cathed-
ral, especially with the towering corporate cathedrals now surrounding it, but it
is an important historic Hong Kong monument all the same. Services have
been held here continuously since the church opened, except in 1944, when
the Japanese Imperial Army used it as a social club.
Former French Mission Building
Follow Battery Path to Ice House St past the Former French Mission Building,
a charming structure built for the Russian consul in Hong Kong in the 1860s
and extensively rebuilt in 1917. It served as the headquarters of the provision-
al colonial government after WWII.
