Central, Hong Kong Don't Miss List

1 STAR FERRY & LAN KWAI FONG
When I take guests around, we first hop aboard the Star Ferry ( Click here )
for a trip across the harbour from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central. Central's lights
are spectacular at night. If you've time to spare, stop for a quick beer at Pier
7 Cafe & Bar (Shop M, Roof Viewing Deck, Central Pier 7, Central; 9am-
midnight) before hitting the bars and clubs of Lan Kwai Fong. En route,
down a pint at Alfie's (Landmark Prince's, 10 Chater Rd; 7.30am-late
Mon-Fri, from 11am Sat & Sun) for something a little old school.
2 PEAK TRAM
Rub shoulders with tourists and wealthy residents on the Peak Tram ( Click
here ). The train leans 27 degrees at times during its ascent up Victoria
Peak, so claim a seat before take-off. Stop at Peak Tower for a coffee (or
ice cream) or a stroll around the shops, and admire perhaps Hong Kong's
best views (clouds permitting).
3 TRAM TO SHEUNG WAN
Journey back in time on a Hong Kong tram ( Click here ) from Central to
Sheung Wan or Happy Valley. Squeeze up to the front of the top deck for
the best vantage point, but prepare early for disembarking - after 16 years,
I am still amazed by the number of people who cram into one small tram
and I still can't fight past the old ladies to get off.
4 SEVVA
Look for the lift serving only the 25th floor in the lobby of Princes Building.
Sevva ( Click here ) is something of a secret oasis: the tree-lined outdoor
area has stunning 360-degree views over Central and the old Mandarin
Hotel. Its honeycomb cream cake is hard to beat - order it to go, too.
