only help make the presentation more fluid and natural, but will instill conviction
and showcase professionalism. The next important aspect is to prepare. Preparation
the day before of any materials is liable to throw a curve ball. Team members should
be familiar with the material that all presenters are bringing. This will cut down on
any gut reactions that may be witnessed by the audience. This brings me to the last
point respect the team. Do not interject unnecessarily or make subtle suggestions that
you may not have been in favor of a certain aspect of the project.
13.7 Phase VII: Product Delivery With Documentation
The project is almost over, success or failure is something that needs to be
delivered to those that paid for it. Deliverables for projects come in many forms
depending on the type of project. In the least, the software developed and the user
documentation should be provided for the product to be delivered. In some
instances however, there will need to be setup of the system or end user training. In
any circumstances the deliverables should be delivered in a professional nature,
reflective of the atmosphere of the entire project.
13.7.1 Peer Reviews
Peer reviews are a powerful tool when assessing the end value of an individual's
input to the project. Peer reviews should provide insight into the growth of the
student developer, as well as to the areas that may require improvement or pol-
ishing. They should be administered similar to tests so that students can write their
own honest evaluations of their peers without influence of others. Peer reviews
after the project is complete should contain the same questions as the progress
reports had, plus more feedback on growth. Some characteristics that should be
added to the peer review after the completion of the project are:
• Technical ability adaptation (the growth of coding, debugging and design skills).
• Communication, or how well the student developer communicated during the
project outside of designated work time (did the student developer attempt to
motivate the project to a greater amount of success)?
• It may be appropriate to ask for more lengthy written evaluations from each
individual on their own performance. Not only is self-assessment a valuable
skill, but it also helps provide insight into some of the comments received
regarding the individual's reviews.
